Your mind and physical body are interconnected and inseparable. When you catch a cold you not only feel physically sick, but mentally sick as well. It’s hard to take on a more positive attitude when it feels like someone stuffed your cranium with rocks! If something happens that causes emotional upset, you tend to feel physically sick, lethargic and “down” as well. You get that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach and feel that you might pass out. But there is a way to create an upswing in health: by improving your mindset (emotional state and outlook).
Commit this to memory: how you are emotionally can directly affect how you are physically. Stressing about daily schedules, not allowing yourself to get enoughsleep, overworking yourself in the office or struggling with personal tragedy can all cause you to get sick or suffer from fatigue and bodily aches.
It follows that when you set out to heal your mind you can also heal your body.
Mind-Body Healing
Meditation – combined with visualization and self-reprogramming – is a way to clear your mind and learn to transcend the negative thoughts that are causing you physical distress. You discipline yourself through various levels of inner consciousness until you are able to connect with your higher self and achieve peace and oneness. You can use meditation to calm the stress and anxieties that plague your mind and, in turn, your body. Meditation is also a helpful tool for healing, both physically and mentally.
By awakening your natural healing ability within your mind, you can transform it into a well-oiled machine for health and wellness rather than allowing it to be a cause of disease, joint pain, muscle tension, stomach upsets, migraine headaches, and more.
Essential Requirements for Effective Mind-Body Healing
1. First, enter the Alpha and Theta levels – the brainwave states of meditation. Simply put on your favorite Omharmonics track, and let your brain relax into a slower, less frantic state of activity. Spending 30 minutes a day in meditation, focusing on feeling good, will do wonders for your emotional, mental, physical and even spiritual health. Stress decreases, the body goes into “rest and digest” mode where cell repair and regeneration occurs, and you have a golden opportunity to direct your thoughts toward wellness.
2. Learn to use the power of healing imagery: Visualize your goal or end-result while you are in your Alpha and Theta levels. If healing and illness or injury is your goal then imagine yourself at full health and operating at 100% again. Some essential tips for using visualization correctly:
- When visualizing your wellness goal, do not look at it as a future image. For example, if you suffer from joint or muscle pains, visualize yourself free of those pains right now instead of some time off in the future. You want to be healthy now, so focus on being healthy right now. This instant. Don’t let your mind argue that you’re not. Master your thoughts and imagine yourself, and FEEL yourself, as healthy, NOW.
- The sensations andemotions to focus on in your healing imagery is the happiness, joy and relief of being pain and illness free rather than the want or desire for it. Visualizing yourself in a healed state opens your mind and body for healing to happen now. Be careful not to want or desire health, because then you’re visualizing from a place of “not having” – and this is what you will mentally focus on… and perpetuate. Always focus on what you want, as though you already have it (really, you do – in your mind – and this state of being just needs to be brought into your physical reality).
- Most importantly, EXPECT your visualizations to be as real as the physical reality you’re experiencing now. Think of the power of the imagination in terms of inventions. Everything that someone invented, first existed only in their imagination. So it is with your health!
Your overall well-being is directly linked to your mindset. Do you see how the mind stays so connected to everything else? The key to the most effective and lasting mind-body healing is in your ability to respect and understand the interconnectedness between your mind and your body. There is a real power there that you can learn to use for yourself… the power of your emotions and your imagination.
Any time you are faced with a choice in how to perceive yourself – no matter your current physical state of being – choose to perceive yourself in a loving, healthy, happy way. In fact, self-love is a huge component of excellent health. Think back to when you were a newborn baby. Of course you don’t remember that, but know this: you were born emotionally healthy, and it is only through life experiences that you may have allowed negativity to become habit. Visualize yourself as a perfect, magnificent being. Don’t give any mental or emotional energy to “what is” – focus only on yourself in perfect health.
As you do this, the ways and means to match your inner reality and your outer reality will be revealed to you. You may start noticing healthier food options; or be drawn to a new sport; or decide to take up yoga or tai chi as a form of moving meditation; or, you may be strongly pulled toward a wonderful goal that will engage you and inspire you. This lift in your emotional energy will have positive healing consequences!
